Hero by Perry Moore

Heyy dear friends! I'm trying my hardest to post more frequently! I bet you're sooo proud of me. It's hard though because our first grading period ends on Friday, so i'm making sure make grades are good enough for my own standards and for my parents. So for all of you lovely people i give you my review for Hero!

****Hero by Perry Moore****

Thom only wants to make his ex-super hero of a dad proud. But that motive starts to get a little difficult when people start calling him a "fag", Thom wishes he could deny it so his dad won't be ashamed, but it's true. Thom is gay and he doesn't want anyone to know. To add on to his stress the League of super heroes asks him to tryout. This sounds all fine and dandy except that Thom's father used to be part of the League, untill they kicked him out after the accidental destruction that happened. Thom though is all about secrets so, of course he tries out for the League. Thom is put in a team with an old lady who can see the future, Typhoid Larry who makes people sick, Scarlett a girl with sectets and the power to make fire, and of course himself, a gay boy who can heal people. Thom thinks he can save the world, but when desperate times come will he be able to?

This book has made it to my top 20 fav books. I love reading books from a male perspective, but this was the first book i read about a gay boy. It was also the first book i read on super heroes. Hero starts out slow, and takes about the first 20-50 pages to get into it. But once you're there you STAY THERE. Thom was a funny character that was super easy to relate to. Everyone wants to please their parents and will even keep things from them to do so. One of the only things that i didn't like was the ending. It was a little empty and left you with a lot of unanswered questions. Overall I really enjoyed reading Hero. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read something a little bit different.

Hero definately deserves 4 muffins out of 5!
Happy reading!

Bite Me by Parker Blue

AHH again it's been so long since i've updated! But nevermind that. Here's another review!

****Bite Me by Parker Blue****
Val Shapiro just happens to be part demon. To keep her lust urges under control she hunts vampires who are threatening human life. Untill her parents decide that she is a bad influence on her younger sister, and choose to kick her out. But Val is determined to make it on her own. With the help of her newly found part hellhound dog Fang, she believes she can do anything. Val even gets a job where her vampire hunting skills come in handy. But what will happen when the death rates from vampires goes up, and her sister is in danger? Will Val be able to use her demon powers for once in her life with no regrets?

So far the only fantasy books i've read was the Twilight Saga. But Bite Me is a strong competitor. Val is a great character with a sharp and witty sense of humor. When Fang comes into the picture you automatically love him. That is to say all of the characters are very well developed. This book literally has everything: Love, betrayal, vampires, and a mystery. How much better can it get than that? Only a little bit. My only complaint would be that it was that I didn't like how Val's mother was so heartless. I mean I know she was being protective over her other daughter, but did she have to blame Val for everything? Overall Bite Me was a VERY enjoyable read. I can't wait for the next Demon Underground novel!!

I gladly give this book 4 out of 5 muffins!

Westminster Abby- Review (finally, right?)

It seems like i've been reading it forever but i'm finally finished reading Westminster Abby by Micol Ostow. So i'll get right to the meaning of this blog and review it for you.!

***Westminster Abby by Micol Ostow***

Abby Capshaw's application to the Students Across the Seven Seas Study Abroad Program has been accepted. She has mixed emotions as she heads to London. She sees herself as vanilla ice cream; sweet, plain, and not very exciting. Never one to be a risk taker, this trip is stretching her limits. This may be the perfect opportunity to assert her independence from her over-controlling parents, escape a disastrous break-up with her boyfriend, and become one big hot fudge sundae! Upon arriving in London, Abby determines to do things she wouldn't ordinarily do. She introduces herself to a green-haired girl. She commits lies of omission to avoid conflicts with her parents. And she ventures into a new relationship, even though she's not looking for one.

I'm not one to right a hate review, and of course NONE of the books i've read deserve one. I liked Abby and Zoe they were fun characters and were easy to relate to. I guess it's because i'm not interested in world travel, but this book bored me. It took a lot of self control not to just put the book away and forget about it. But that would have drove me crazy. So i just kept on reading. The book wasn't BAD, it just wasn't my kind of story. Plus most books written in the third person drive me crazy. The scenery was described too much for my taste, i just wanted to get on with the story. Also some of the reactions people had were a little off. Over all the book was okay but a bit boring. I would recommend this book to someone who likes to read about new places and basic teenage problems.

I give this book 2 out of 5 muffins (sorry)
