When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

This series is starting out to be just as amazing as everyone else says it is. I was worried that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but thankfully it surpassed them. I've been wanting to read this series for a while and I'm glad that I started.

Just like people tell me, Jace and Simon are hilarious. Whenever there was a low moment between all of the action we got some comedy from Jace or Simon. They always seemed to come up with things that I've always wanted to say. They're just so darn clever! Not only were they amazing, so was Clary. Clary was a strong independent character with a witty sense of humor. Also, she never did any of those annoying putting herself in danger things that I HATE when female characters do.

The whole premise of the book was original and intriguing. I'll be sure to check out the rest of the books very soon. If you've been waiting to read these books now would be a great time to start!
